Tempering process is usually carried out after hardening. Tempering should be done within 4 hours of quenching. A minimum of two hours must be spent soaking, plus one extra hour for every additional inch or fraction of an inch. Parts may undergo two hours of snap tempering at a temperature lower than the tempering temperature.
